24 HRS IN FRANSCHHOEK

May 9, 2018

11am - Check into Dieu Donné Vineyard Cottage situated high on the steep south-west facing slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains.

12pm - Enjoy a warm cup of tea with mosbolletjie rusks on the patio overlooking the vineyards, whilst catching up. Molly the dog enjoyed her complimentary treats too!

2pm - Time to explore and take a walk in the vineyards.

3pm - Back to the cottage, where me met our friends Llwellyn and his rescue pups Jack & Rose. A impromptu doggy playdate commenced, while the humans took in the final winter rays.

4pm - Time to get cosy and pop the bubbles, as we sat bundled up on our private patio, sipping on our Gorgeous Bubbles the Franschhoek sun dropped below the granite mountains.

6pm - Time to feast at Haute Cabriere.  We headed through the small buzzing town of Franschhoek, up the pass towards our destination point.  Welcomed on arrival by the most beautiful sky, painted by pink and orange hues.

6.30pm - A delicious bread course involving some heavenly tomato jam and crispy vetkoek was delivered to the table  As we sat in the cosy cellar lit by candles we sipped on our Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir Réserve. I couldn't resist ordering the Pan fried gnocchi with gem squash puree, roasted pumpkin, sage and honey butter.  It was superb, the flavours and textures all married beautifully.

7.15pm - Main courses were a choice of Prawns & fresh tagiatelli, chili, garlic, parsley, parmesan and the Charcoal grilled venison loin with a port and truffle sauce, blue cheese and smoky onion tart, tender stem broccoli. Both delicious!

9pm - We ended our meal with Crêpe suzette and orange blossom ice cream.  We then made the chilly journey home, back to our cosy welcoming cottage.  As I slid into my warm heated bed, my eyes closed quickly, with a full heart.

8am - Up early and ready to conquer breakfast at Franschhoek Boutique Hotel, we regrettably bid farewell to our vineyard cottage.

9am - We enjoyed a a fresh and healthy cold breakfast selection, followed by perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict and a lovingly made flat white. As Molly quietly lay beside me and Josie finished her breakfast, we all had the same thought, when could we return.
